How severe is my ED?

Erectile Dysfunction presents itself differently in every man. Some patients only have mild symptoms, such as occasional problems achieving an erection, while others have more complex cases with very little blood flow to the penis.

Only sexual medicine specialist can accurately gauge the extent of your ED, but take our quiz to instantly learn where your case may fall.

What is ED?

Erectile Dysfunction is the persistent inability to achieve or maintain an erection. The degree and severity varies from patient to patient, and in mild cases a man might not even realize that his issues technically qualify as ED.

What causes Erectile Dysfunction?

There are a number of conditions that can lead to erectile dysfunction, some of which include:

Age: The age that doctors usually consider to be a risk factor for erectile dysfunction is about 50. However, it is not uncommon for men in their 30s and 40s to have erectile dysfunction.

Medications: Certain medications can cause erectile dysfunction.

Obesity: Obesity is a risk factor for many medical problems, and erectile dysfunction is no exception.

Other Medical Conditions: Conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol diabetes, smoking, and surgery to the prostate or bladder can also cause E.D.

….in mild cases a man might not even realize that his issues technically qualify as ED.
How do you diagnose a patient with Erectile Dysfunction?

We offer an array of diagnostic testing for clients with ED. We’ll work with you to get your targeted history and give you a thorough physical examination to determine the best diagnostic approach. A variety of laboratory tests help us identify the root causes of your ED and how to fix it.

What treatment options are available for patients diagnosed with erectile dysfunction?

There are a multitude of options available to treat patients diagnosed with erectile dysfunction. Our approach is customized for each patient but typically involves a combination of therapies such as Platelet Rich Plasma, Low intensity wave therapy (COREWAVE™ ), medications (Cialis, Viagra, Levitra), and injection therapy.

How effective are the medications that are used to treat erectile dysfunction?

Medications for erectile dysfunction can be very effective for certain patients. Men who have mild or moderate erectile dysfunction can experience great results, but more extensive cases may require multiple treatment methods for optimal response.

What is Low Intensity Shock Wave (COREWAVE™) Therapy?

Low intensity shock wave therapy uses energy from acoustic waves to trigger a process called neovascularization in the penis. When neovascularization occurs, new blood vessels form. This helps improve blood flow to the erect penis to help with firmness, and more spontaneous erections.

Will COREWAVE™ work for me?

According to studies on low intensity wave therapy there is up to a 70% rate of success in selected men that undergo treatment. The best results are seen in men with mild-to-moderate erectile dysfunction.

Does COREWAVE™ therapy hurt?

Unlike some traditional low intensity wave therapies, COREWAVE™ Therapy is generally considered painless. There may be a sense of tingling or discomfort in the penis during treatment.

Every patient is unique, so each case of ED requires a different combination of therapies to achieve maximum results.

Penile Prosthesis (“The Internal Pump”)

There are certain patients in whom the conservative treatments like the pills, injections, Corewave therapy, PRP (Plasma Rich Platelet Therapy), the vacuum device or stem cell therapy will not provide the desired outcome, “a nice, hard erection”. The penile implant is a proven technology that was developed in the 1970’s and has evolved significantly over the past 45 years. The experts at Alabama Sexual Medicine Specialists have implanted thousands over the past 30 years with excellent patient outcomes and thousands of satisfied partners. The beauty of the internal pump is spontaneity (without the need for drugs), reliability and durability.
